“Salesmanship”

This may come as a surprise to you but I don’t believe in “Salesmanship”.  Now I don’t expect everyone to agree with me on this, nor do I think my philosophy on this subject works for everyone. However, I have created a financial fortune by refusing to be a salesperson and become an “Un-bias Decision Collector”.  When I present an offer or opportunity to someone and I have to ‘sell them on the idea to buy it” that product is not for them.  I let people know up front I am only after a decision not an effort to sell them anything.

Using this format has allowed me to go into every presentation at peace and knowing that I have the prospect’s best interest at heart while keeping clear that I am not responsible for people just responsible to people.

Do you know why UPS drivers are always running and hustling? It is not just because they are good workers, no they drop the package off, get it signed for and then run off the porch as fast as they can because every network marketer in the world tries to recruit them or sell them their product line.  Larry my UPS driver makes deliveries four or five times a week to us, many which are our network marketing products we use and I have never once bugged him about what I take or drink.  Why?  He knows what those products are and if he wanted to know more about them he has this little thing floating around in his skull called a brain and he would ask me about them. Therefore until Larry asks me about them…”No Soup for You”! 

I do have some people get a bit upset when I tell them this product is not for them and refuse to allow them to rape and violate my ear for 30 minutes with their excuses why the opportunity is not for them.  Never let a prospect abuse your ears and time.  A decision does not come with a multitude of shades and versions and it does not take an hour to articulate.  It is a one word element (yes or no) and takes about 3 seconds to verbally articulate.

I stream line who I talk to about our product line by first sending them automated information via reports and audios so they know exactly what it is, how it works, what it can do for them and how much it costs.  Once a prospect goes through all our marketing funnels, when they get on the line with me 98 percent say “Yes” to our offer in five minutes or less.

In the end it comes down to “you cannot say the wrong thing to the right person or the right thing to the wrong person”.  Yes or no is fine with me just give me your answer in nine seconds or less!

Prospecting Made Easy

There may not be anything more distasteful in the entire realm of business than prospecting.  For most, it is painful, unfruitful and down right unpleasant.  It is usually done under extreme inner protest, and done extremely poorly.  It is any wonder that it produces disgusting results?  The big culprit in all this misery over prospecting and marketing comes from not understanding the process and having a wrong perspective of it.  Far too many professionals view it as begging people to do something they do not want to do and finding great pleasure in slamming the door shut in our face. 

Okay, maybe they don’t articulate it that way, but I promise you that is the mechanics going on inside their noodle. Rejection is always painful; I do not care how tough you say your skin is, or how much you say it does not bother you.  Getting a No and rejection to your offer is like taking a straight kick to the McNuggets.  It hurts even if you are wearing a Cup or don’t have any McNuggets to be kicked into your stomach!

The good news is there are some pro-active things you can do to soften the blow and pain, and in fact make prospecting a lot easier.

Prospecting is about…

Timing: Timing is everything.  When we show up with our offer to people it is more about timing in their life than our selling skills.  If the timing is right, you can sell hard candy to people with no teeth.  If the timing is not right, you could be exchanging hundred-dollar bills for twenty-dollar bills and people will not take them.  If you think I am exaggerating, I run a lot of sponsorship programs where we offer people $11,000 with no strings attached and hundreds refuse to take it!  I used to think it was due to complete stupidity but I leaned its more about wrong timing for them. 

Finding:  Effective and successful prospecting is about people finding you and not so much of you finding them.  It is about attracting customers, not hunting for customers.  You must become visible in the marketplace so that your ideal customers can find and locate you.  They are spending money on the exact same thing you are selling and they might as well spend it with you.  And they will if they can find you.

Identifying:  When you are prospecting you are really going into the marketplace to identify the people you can help, whose timing is just right and want what you are selling. When you go to the fruit section, do you just close your eyes and pick any fruit on the table?  Hell no, you spend 10 minutes expecting, turning over, poking, touching, picking up, putting back and finally identifying the best ones to put in your basket.  Do you put rotten, bug ridden fruit in your basket? No…then why are you accepting rotten customers for?

Eliminating:  When people say No to your offer they are simply eliminating themselves from your target market list.  You are eliminating them from your radar of ideal customers.  When people say No, they are doing you a big favor, they are saving you time, energy and money.  I had the best experience last Sunday when I went to the Flea Market.  A vendor there had a couple of models I was interested in.  When I asked him the price and he told me, I countered with an offer.  He smiled and said, “No, but thank you for the offer”.  I was so impressed with his come back reply, and one I never heard before that I paid him his asking price (then I grumbled to everyone the whole day that I paid too much for the item!).  When I made my offer to him, he immediately identified me and basically but extremely politely and tactfully said “Your ass is out of here”!

When you understand these four dynamics about prospecting, not only does it become easier, but you will find it more productive as well as profitable.  You will be marketing from an intellectual stand point instead of an emotional standpoint.  I guess you could compare it to wearing a cup made out of iron instead of plastic…

The Worst Payers Are The Biggest Complainers…

The legendary Jim Rohn said that “Success Leaves Clues” and that is so true.  On the other hand, bad customers leave clues as well.  What I have jjimrohn_seated_2found to be true after 30 years in business are the prospects and customers that put you through all kinds of demands, ask for unreasonable extras, complain the most, and contribute the least pay the worst.  Those who want and demand the most gives the least.

The moment I start smelling a “Rat” I kick their ass out as fast as I can and refuse to do any kind of business with them, and I suggest that if you find customers trying to crawl into your business camp that demand more and wanting to pay less, you do the same.  There is only one thing worse than having no customers and that is having bad customers.

Perhaps you’ve heard the story of the little bird. He had his wing over his eye and he was crying. The owl said to the bird, “You are crying.” “Yes,” said the little bird, and he pulled his wing away from his eye. “Oh, I see,” said the owl. “You’re crying because the big bird pecked out your eye.” And the little bird said, “No, I’m not crying because the big bird pecked out my eye. I’m crying because I let him.”

I see so many business owners and professionals going through so much misery and taking so much crap from demanding, unrealistic customers because their business is so bad and the economy is so harsh.  Both realities are unnecessary.  The problem is that they have no proven marketing plan in place in order to “Attract Their Perfect, Ideal Customer”.  We bend over backwards, do the unreasonable and go the extra ten miles to please and accommodate our customers.  I have personally taken calls from customers at 3:00 A.M. because in their part of the world it’s 10:00 A.M.

Our constant business goal is to over deliver and under promise.  Our main goal is to serve our customer base and have each member become “Outrageous Fans”.  We give tens of thousands of dollars worth of materials to our customer base and potential customers Free and Postpaid.  We want people to know that we are “Givers” not “Takers”.

My good friend Connie was dealing with a horrible, bad paying customer and I asked her why she was doing it.  She said “I don’t know, I am not making any money on this customer and he is a nightmare to deal with”.  I was so pleased when I got an email from her two days later saying, “I fired that guy and I have never felt so good and free in my life!”  Way to go Connie!

Here are the Facts:

  • There are tens of thousands of ideal, good paying, perfect customers in the marketplace right now. 
  • There are more customers than you could possibly serve in your lifetime. 
  • You must find a way to implement a marketing plan to find and attract those ideal customers.

Take No B.S. From Anyone…

I believe that as decent moral, integrity based human beings that we should live our life by the Golden Rule and for those of us that are in business we should always go the extra mile, give far more than we ever take and do everything we can to improve our attitude, skills and life so that we can be genuinely a Nice Person.  Our goal should be kind and helpful to people and never do anyone any harm.

Now, that being said, this does not mean you become a door mat for rude, obnoxious people.  In fact, as a professional and business owner you should have a Number One Rule that states “I Tolerate No B.S.” especially from prospects and bad customers!  Over the years I have thrown out Customers and Prospects from Hell that were high paying people, famous people, well known leaders and Celebrities from our books, movies, Mentorship programs because once you tolerate bad behavior from people, they will be taking a dump in every room of your house.

When a Customer from Hell slips past our gates, I throw them out immediately and shove their refund up their butt as I slam the door!  For instance, when someone writes me an unsolicited nasty critical letter, email or post, my first instinct use to be to spend time writing back an apologetic response and trying to explain my point of view in a pleasant manner.

Then one day, it dawned on me, “why in the world am I spending all this time and energy on this worthless bag of shit?”

I need to be focusing all my time and energy on serving the thousands of loyal customers we have and doing everything we can to help them.  There is never any reason why you need to take rude abusive behavior from people just because you need their business or the sale. “Don’t Do It”.

Never disrespect anyone, but never allow anyone to disrespect you either.  We live in a world of ingratitude, I get it.  People are consumed only with their problems and life; that is human nature.  We send out thousands of dollars of Free CD’s, DVD’S, Books, Packages, all postpaid and find out of every 525 gifts we send, we get 2 Thank You replies (and sometimes one of those two thank you notes are Thank you for never contacting me again and that is after the stupid little bastard requested the Free gift in the first place!)

However, we do not send out these Free Gifts to get a Thank You response, if I did I might end up in the Nut House!

My motto is, “Friends to All, Enemies to None”.  When I do have to cut loose a nasty, mean, customer and prospect that snuck out of Hell and somehow landed on my door step I tell them with all sincerity, “I love you, but I can’t stand your presence…your Ass is out of Here!  In closing, my blog today is not to offend anyone but to help everyone learn how to focus on where the real wealth is, and that is serving all those wonderful people that honor and respect you as you do the same for them.

We all have or had friends in the past that cost us money; some of them lose us money and a few of them that actually make us money.  My goal is to make everyone associated with me money.  I want to be a constant source of income for all those I have any type of relationship with.  The key to business prosperity is to surround yourself with the best of friends that add value to your life and you in return add value to theirs.

Today I want to introduce you to 3 Best Friends that if you invite them into your core group I promise and guarantee that they will make you financially wealthy.  Who are they?  I think in this setting the proper question is what are they?  Your 3 new Best Friends are:

The Four Seasons of Painless Prospecting

When I am doing my daily Painless Prospecting and Painless Selling system it flows to and filters out four kinds of people. The Power of Mentorship Books

Number One: My Ideal Customer.  This is the one who is ready to buy, needs no prompting from me, just wants to know how soon I can get them their product.

Number Two:  Those who are in the growing stage.  Not ready to purchase just yet, but loves, enjoys and benefits from the high quality no cost materials that we provide to the marketplace.  It is just a matter of time, until they ripen into loyal customers who will stay with us for years to come.

Number Three:  Those who our product line just does not fit them at this present time and have no interest in finding out how it can…take me off your list please.

Number Four:  Those who are hostile as hell and meaner than a junk yard dog!  A lady recently emailed be who said, “I am a professional writer, and I would never give a book away for free, especially for marketing purposes, that is deceptive” never contact me again!   I thought to myself, “Wow, not only are you ugly…you are stupid too!”

Now the good news is, only those in category Number One will be calling and contacting you and therefore this is the group you will be selling too.  How high do you think your closing ratio will be?  Heck, you could sell this group dental floss even if they had no teeth.

Category Four, well…you just show a little empathy for them knowing you would be rude and hostile too if you had a cosmetic beauty face lift and the doctor used the skin on your butt and sewed it on your face!

Are you starting to see why prospecting and selling can be so much fun, enjoyable and profitable using the system of Painless Prospecting and Painless Selling?  Why in the world would anyone want to go about increasing their business and income any other way?  My question to you is; forget about everyone else, why in the world are you not doing it this way?  Drop whatever you are doing and contact me right now so we can get you doubling and tripling your income the Painless way.

“Unless your marketing message is getting in front of a minimum of 100 new prospects everyday 7 days a week…you simply will not survive in business” 

That number is a very conservative number and the truth of the matter is, if all you did was get your story (marketing message) in front of 100 people a day, you would need prayer, fasting and a host of miracles to grow your income just a hair over broke.

Unless you have pockets as deep as the Pacific Ocean, getting your message effectively in front of 200 people a day 7 days a week is a daunting challenge to most.  And if you do have deep pockets and you use conventional marketing it won’t be long before you don’t!

That’s why I urge everyone to practice Painless Prospecting and Painless Selling.  It is the most cost effective way (zero cost, you can’t get much cheaper than that) and productive way to double and triple your income.

Prospecting Made Easy…

Effective prospecting, marketing and advertising is not designed to sell products or services, they are designed to “Qualify” (or find) those who are ready to buy and just important to “Disqualify” those who are not ready to buy.  When you understand this, you will not feel hurt, disappointed or discouraged when people say no to your offer.ecoverPackage

You would not believe the mean, nasty and rude no’s I receive from people that I simply offer to help.  Realize upfront, a lot of people out there you are prospecting too are meaner than ugly itself, and this harsh economy squeezes every drop of meanness out of them!

Effective prospecting and selling requires you to maximize your time, therefore your system has to be one where you do not waste your time on people who are not ready to say Yes.  The worst and most painful way to invest your time is trying to sell, persuade, and convince a No into a Yes.  This is called “Insanity Selling” yet most professionals teach and practice this type of selling.  I was having lunch one day with Brian Tracy and he said, “When you present an opportunity and your friends tell you they are broke…Believe Them!   Know the difference between a question and objection.  I will sit for hours and answer real questions with a probable client, but not waste five minutes dealing with objections with someone who is not ready to buy.

When my wife Melinda goes shopping for shoes, (how one woman with only two feet can own hundreds of pairs of shows I have no clue) no salesperson on the planet has to sell, persuade or convince her to buy.  She runs into the store waving our credit card!  That is the kind of customer you want to spend your time with.  No matter what your industry is, people who want what you offer are out there by the thousands!  So why do so many professionals seek after and deal with people they have to force to buy?  They simply do not have a better plan.

My wife gets really mad at me for this, but when people call and ask me what is my best price for our service I hang up on them.  Best price?  You want maximum results at basement prices…that does not exist in the real world of results.  Life and Success requires “full price” and the sooner we learn that, the faster we will get what we truly desire.  Some people waste an entire lifetime trying to defy this natural principal only to discover at the end of their life that trying to beat the system is the ultimate high price of life.

With effective marketing, it brings to you people who are ready to say yes to your offer and your closing rate will range in the 98 to 99 percent range.  The shoe salesperson who waits on my wife bats a 1000 percent every time!

When you are hungry as a bear and you walk into a restaurant does anyone have to try and sell you food? No, they simply just take your order.

When you pull into the gas station on empty, with your gas tank bone dry, does the clerk asleep behind the desk have to try and sell you some gas?
