“Ignoring People”

Never use “Ignoring People” as a way to say no to their request or offer. This will build you a reputation of being low class, non professional and a flake.  Now none of these may be true of you but those labels will stick on you like super glue to ceramic if you “Ignore” peoples calls texts, and or emails because you don’t know how to tactfully say “No Thank”.  You have every right to say yes or no to whatever anyone asks of you but in the world of business and life you must learn the “Art and Skill” of knowing when and how to say no.

The easiest way and most used way to say no by non professionals is too “Ignore” the follow up from people.  But professionals use the skill of saying no thank you that not only strengthens the relationship but takes it to the next level of increase for both parties.  This is just one skill we teach all our Mentorship Students.  Once you get the reputation that you respond to every follow up request you will never have to worry about customers or clients, business or income because you will have more than you can use for the rest of your life.

Professionals always say “Yes” even when their response or reply is “No Thank You”.

If you are ever going to “Ignore People” the professional way to do it is contact that person and thank them for being part of your network but due to current conditions you are now deleting them from your circle.  The good news is, if you are a Professional before you ever have to come to that state they will have already dropped you, deleted you and took you off of their Facebook page.  We get lots of people who we know de-friend us off their facebook due to our posts. 100% of them are broke, bitter, and angry and can’t deal with all this success talk.

Never get so low in life that it makes you bitter toward people.  We all struggle with the issues of life, we all have challenges but we can choose to be “Bitter” or choose to get “Better”.

The Latte Master…

When it comes to staying ahead of our sinking economy and becoming one of the top income earners in your industry I have always shared that your top ingredient is that you have to set yourself apart from your lattecompetition.  If you want a technical name for this it is called your Unique Selling Proposition (USP) or Unique Selling Position.  You have to ask yourself continually “What am I doing to make myself unique and different in the marketplace?” “What makes me stand out, get noticed but most importantly get remembered?”

If you want to have the competitive slight edge that is a must requirement to win in business and qualify you for high income earnings, your ability to make yourself different is the secret ingredient.  Many professionals use gifts as a way of customer or prospect leverage and although this method is effective it can be very risky and hard to get it just right.  Get it wrong and the outcome can be disastrous, get it extremely wrong and you could end up in the “Poky” having the gift being termed an illegal bribe.

What do I recommend as a nice appropriate gift for a customer or a prospect that is both classy and appropriate? Just Give It A Try…

As a child (and somewhat as an adult) to say I was (am) a picky eater would be a massive understatement. No matter how hard my mom would try, or how fierce her warnings were, she had one heck of a time trying to get me to eat anything new.  Her famous words were “Just Give It A Try”.  My famous reply was “I don’t like it”.  “How do you know you don’t like it?” she would ask me, in which I would say, “It looks funny and smells bad”.

Every time she came after me with a new dish I would take off running like a rabbit that just got shot in the ass with a pellet! 

The entire goal of all marketing is just to get your target market to “Taste” your product or service.  As human beings in the 21st Century our internal anti-purchasing systems are so well honed due to the over extensive offers and selling propositions that flood us everyday.  Without thinking, whenever we are exposed to a product or service everything in our brain begins to fire off signals to reject, refuse, ignore, stay away from and run that it automatically overrides our conscience decision and power of choice.

Most do not realize this process is happening to them, but as it happens it blinds us many times to the very thing we need and even desperately desire.  This is the reason many salespeople, professionals and business owners are failing to make more sales and acquire more customers.

The Monkey And The Nut That Killed Him…

Every business has 3 cycles; a time to get in, a time to stay in and a time to get out!  For many professionals and business owners not understanding these business concepts gets them into big financial trouble and has bankrupt many.  The timing of these cycles is extremely precise and offer little room for error.  It’s kind of like those big revolving glass doors, if you jump on it to fast your face is going to slam into a plate of glass and you will pick yourself up with fewer teeth than you started with in the morning.  If you exit too late, you are going to catch a foot or a hand in the door jam and you will yell like Hell!

It takes just the right timing to enter and exit on those revolving doors.  I do not know who the genius that invented them was but they should require a fearmedial doctor installed at each door.  Far too many people go into business thinking it is a lifetime ordeal.  The business may have a long life span but it is rare that it stays with one owner or one family.  On the other hand, many people have got into the right business at the wrong time and lost everything they had including their mind.

The other culprit is getting out too soon.  People jump ship because of rough waters, challenging times and slow growth periods.  Most everyone is familiar with the true story of 3 Feet from Gold recorded in the famous success book “Think and Grow Rich” written by Napoleon Hill.  It is the story of a man who was digging for oil and after much time, money and work was invested with no results, he decided to quite and sold all his oil drilling equipment to the junk yard.  An engineer started studying his map and realized that the oil seeker was just three feet from black gold!  The engineer purchased the oil equipment for a few dollars, moved it three feet over from where the last man left off and became a wealthy oil tycoon.

BusinessQuitting and getting out of a business too soon is most likely the number one mistake made by both armature and professional entrepreneurs.  The reason being, business is no place for the faint in heart, the weak, the complainer, the excuse maker, the bull shit expert, or the fearful.  If you cannot make a decision or make up your mind, don’t go into business or it will drive you out of your mind.  For these reasons, many people get into business only to get out way to soon. If you are going to succeed in business you have to be as tough as King Kong and at times it will not hurt to look like him too.

But out of all the three cycles of business, the most deadly culprit and death trap of all is staying in a business too long.  Thus my headline, “The Monkey and the Nut that Killed Him”.  They tell me one of the main ways that monkey hunters in the Amazon Jungle hunt moneys is by taking a coconut that has been hollowed out and drilling a small hole at both ends and slipping in a small nut.  Then they take that coconut and tie it to a tree.  Before long, a monkey comes by and sticks his hand inside the coconut to grab the nut.  When he does the hunters come walking up comely and easily captures him because when the monkey grabs the nut and makes a fist he cannot remove his hand.

Now the money knows what is coming, he is yelling and jumping up and down and trying to yank his hand loose (with the nut) but finds it impossible to do.  All that monkey has to do is let go of the nut and he could easily slip his hand out of the coconut and go free, escaping capture.  But for whatever reason, that monkey will not let go of that nut and thus gets captured.

That is a perfect illustration of entrepreneurs staying in a business too long even though they can see the end coming.  They refuse to let go and get out.  Many times they do not know how to get out, sometimes the emotional bond is too strong, for some they have been beaten down so bad they do not have the strength to let go.  But for too many, they are like that money and choose sheer stupidity and refuse to let go of the nut that is about to kill them.

The three cycles apply not only to business ownership but also to working careers.  Your income, lifestyle, health and peace of mind are determined by your ability to maneuver your way successfully through these three business and career cycles.  One of the most important things you can do before you enter any business venture is have a plan of action for all three cycles.  Know when to get in, know how long to stay in, and most important know when its time to save your ass and get out!

Take a look at where you are right now and ask yourself what cycle are you in? Because the understanding and timing of business cycles are so important, it is critical that you find an experienced Mentor to help you with this process.  You cannot put a price tag on Mentorship, it is priceless and the value is beyond measure.  Cycles are inevitable finding a Mentor to help you is optional (on your part).

Hard Times Are Not Necessary…

As Melinda and I drive around our city, the number of empty business buildings seems to be at record highs.  I am sure that empty buildings are also saturating your town and city.  One of the saddest things is to drive by a business and peer into the windows and see that there are no customers in there. The business seems like a dying ghost town.

Embrace the JourneyAs a business owner myself, I know how painful it is to be in a situation where you see your heart, blood, hard work and total investment dying and going down the tubes. Unless you been there, words cannot express the pain and heartache.  Driving to get a big Cheese Burger from Tommy’s the other night, waiting the for the light to turn green I was looking into a little mom and pop Mexican restaurant where there was not a single person in there, my stomach got a knot of compassion for them.

The thing that disturbs me more than seeing these dying businesses and empty buildings is realizing that all this shortage and hard times is Completely Unnecessary!  The reason these buildings are empty and business owners are failing is because they never took the time to develop an economy sustaining Marketing Plan and System to Attract New Customers and Sustain Current Customers.  If they had a Proven Marketing Plan they would prosper like an Oasis in the middle of a hot desert.

Although our economy is harsh, it does not cause professionals to suffer lack.  What a bad economy does however is demand us to take 100 percent Responsibility for the results that are happening in our business and life.

In a good economy, it allows us to coast and ride the wave of global prosperity without taking much responsibility for our business and therefore can thrive with a poor marketing plan or no marketing plan at all.

But all that changes when the economy goes south and now you are in the middle of a battle with no experience, no weapons, no way to defend yourself and the enemy comes in like a flood and turns you every way but loose and does you butt wrong!

If you are a business owner or professional, unless you make a strong change of direction in your marketing plan and put that plan at the very top of your priority list, it will be just a matter of time until you will become the next victim of these vicious economic times we are facing today.

Hear me well, things are not going to get better any time soon, we are a long, long way off before the financial pressure is going to let up, and only those who are Marketing Prepared and Strong are going to survive.  For those of you that are currently employed and do not have some kind of side business in the works, that’s like walking on a tight rope without a net on a very windy day.

The Good News is, you do not have to be a victim of this economy, Hard Times Are Not Necessary.  Wake up and realize the reason for your business lack is the lack of a Marketing Plan.  Your Marketing Plan and Plan of Massive Activity is going to be your Ark that will save you in this storm!
