“Salesmanship”

This may come as a surprise to you but I don’t believe in “Salesmanship”.  Now I don’t expect everyone to agree with me on this, nor do I think my philosophy on this subject works for everyone. However, I have created a financial fortune by refusing to be a salesperson and become an “Un-bias Decision Collector”.  When I present an offer or opportunity to someone and I have to ‘sell them on the idea to buy it” that product is not for them.  I let people know up front I am only after a decision not an effort to sell them anything.

Using this format has allowed me to go into every presentation at peace and knowing that I have the prospect’s best interest at heart while keeping clear that I am not responsible for people just responsible to people.

Do you know why UPS drivers are always running and hustling? It is not just because they are good workers, no they drop the package off, get it signed for and then run off the porch as fast as they can because every network marketer in the world tries to recruit them or sell them their product line.  Larry my UPS driver makes deliveries four or five times a week to us, many which are our network marketing products we use and I have never once bugged him about what I take or drink.  Why?  He knows what those products are and if he wanted to know more about them he has this little thing floating around in his skull called a brain and he would ask me about them. Therefore until Larry asks me about them…”No Soup for You”! 

I do have some people get a bit upset when I tell them this product is not for them and refuse to allow them to rape and violate my ear for 30 minutes with their excuses why the opportunity is not for them.  Never let a prospect abuse your ears and time.  A decision does not come with a multitude of shades and versions and it does not take an hour to articulate.  It is a one word element (yes or no) and takes about 3 seconds to verbally articulate.

I stream line who I talk to about our product line by first sending them automated information via reports and audios so they know exactly what it is, how it works, what it can do for them and how much it costs.  Once a prospect goes through all our marketing funnels, when they get on the line with me 98 percent say “Yes” to our offer in five minutes or less.

In the end it comes down to “you cannot say the wrong thing to the right person or the right thing to the wrong person”.  Yes or no is fine with me just give me your answer in nine seconds or less!

Network Marketing…

If you look at almost every renowned business tycoon you will find a common thread that they all have or had their hand in Network Marketing as one of their MSI (multiple streams of income).  Ask any Millionaire Network Marketingabout Network Marketing and they will speak positive about it as a business and industry. Contrary to that, ask any broke person about Network Marketing and they will speak negative about it, calling it a pyramid scam and of course they tried it and it did not work.

I will be the first to admit that Network Marketing is not for most working class people because it is a real business that requires one to play and work it at a professional level.  I always am amazed when you tell the working class about a Network Marketing company and opportunity and they will immediately go to the internet and do their research and come back and inform you this multi-million dollar successful company stole your $49.00 sign up fee.  Do you really think the average person who never made over seventy-five thousand dollars a year has the ability to evaluate and do proper legal research on a multi-million dollar company?  If they are so smart why are they so broke?

The truth of the matter is, they do not have the skill, resources or intelligence to professionally investigate or evaluate a multimillion dollar corporation…they only think they do.  Network Marketing is not a business for most of the working class people because it is a professional format of business enterprise.  For instance, Do Not get into Network Marketing to make money, Network Marketing is not designed to make you money; it is designed to make you wealthy.  If you want to earn money stay working for someone else and build their wealth and fortune.

The one draw back of Network Marketing is it spends too much focus on presenting it to broke people.  They get the folks up there on stage who tell their story…”Two years ago I was living in a shoe with one eye, but now I live next door to Chris Tucker and drive a Rolls Royce with lots of Bling, Bling”.  You go out with this story and force recruit broke people into the business and of course you end up quitting yourself and become a static of the 97 percent of people who fail in Network Marketing.

Success in Network Marketing requires you to play at a Professional Level to win and most are not (I did not say able) willing to do that.  With that being said let me share with you 5 major reasons why I think every professional person should have a Network Marketing MSI in their wealth portfolio.

  1. Wealth Creation   Network Marketing once again is not a business to generate you an extra $500.00 a month or earn you part-time income, Network Marketing is a professional business model designed to create financial independence for you over an 18 to 24 month time period.  It is designed to be played at a professional level.

University   When you look at top Universities, when it comes to real actual hands on learning about every aspect of business Network Marketing is the greatest University you could ever enroll in.  It will teach you the core aspects of business in traditional, online and networking formats.  You will not only learn about the skills required to succeed in business but you will develop them and they will become major assets in every area of your life and future. 
  1. Positive Environment   We live in a world that bombards us everyday with negative things. The fact is and science proves it, we become a product of our environment. Since there are many aspects of life that we cannot filter out the negative it becomes vital that we find a pool, an Oasis of Positive words, images and people that we emerge into our life and mind.  Network Marketing provides that Positive Environment which if there where not any wealth creation options associated with it, the Positive Environment alone would be worth joining in.

If Someone Says “No” To Your Offer…Hire Them!

What do most professionals do when a prospect tells them No to their offer?  They will do one of two things.

  1. They will go away feeling rejected and defeated with a giant hole in their ego
  1. They will become the world’s biggest pest until the customer kicks them out or finally resentfully buys…then cancels.

But there is a 3rd and better way!  When someone says No to your offer, chances are very high they know someone who would say Yes to your offer, and if you are willing to pay them enough for that referral they will go to their data base like a deep-sea diver.  When someone says No to my offer, I tell them I understand, my offer is not a fit for everyone.  Then I show them five $100.00 crisp bills and say, but if you do know anyone that is looking for this (whatever I am offering), these five $100.00 bills are yours as a referral thank you.

Your eyes will bug out of your head when you see how quick a rude, no time for you, not interested in your product person suddenly now becomes your Best Friend!  I had many a No’s turned instantly around and buy my product and then say…”Now how many people can I refer to you?”  It is the perfect Painless Conversion plan to turn strangers into loyal customers that becomes a referral machine for you.

Using this method of marketing and selling will drastically turn a negative situation into a fabulous situation and cause your income to go up and make a lot of new friends as well as contacts.  Far too many people say that money is not that important (those are the stupid ones) yet it is amazing what happens to those same people when you put nice warm fuzzy one hundred dollars bills under their nose.  Their eyes get glazed over, a smile comes upon their face and although they were as mean as a junk yard dog, they now have become as docile as a baby lamb.

I once handed a man who purchased some gift certificates at our retail outlet our book The Millionaire Within as a thank you gift.  He looked at the book, and then threw it on the counter and said, “I don’t want that damn book, I am not interested in money”.  I jumped up, smiled as big as I could and shook his hand and said, “Wow, you made my day, in 50 years on this planet I never met someone as stupid as you!”  Keep up the good work because I am a hard guy to surprise and shock.

The guy was so stunned, and did not know how to respond, he had a hard time finding the exit door.  He walked away with his lips moving but no words were coming out. I am lucky he didn’t knock my teeth out!

I had another genius when I told him about the $500.00 referral fee say, “Is this some kind of a bribe?  “I said, it can be, is that what you were looking for?”  He replied, “I don’t take bribes…is there any else we can name it?”

What is so great about this method is how much fun you will have. I had one lady ask me after I showed her the five hundred-dollar bills, “Is there any way you could do a thousand”? I said sure…bring me two referrals!  I once paid a CFO of a major medical firm $58,000 in referral fees, that dude was motivated!  Of course he was a major center of influence and had a lot of high quality contacts and network, and I paid him much more than $500.00 for each referral but I asked him one day how he got so motivated…he looked at me and said, “I have kids!”

Here are two given about every professional;

  1. They all have contacts and know people
  2. They all would pick up $500.00 if they saw it laying on the ground

Hitch Hiking

Back in the 60’s when I was a kid growing up, hitch hiking was a very common and pretty safe way to travel from one destination to another. It did not cost you a penny either, you just stood on the side of the road and stuck your thumb out and before too long someone would pull over and give you a ride. Boy, have times have changed.  You would have to be a complete nut to hitch hike today, or pick up a hitch hiker because you know in this crazy world one of those stupid bastards are going to “Eat” the other one for dinner, either hitch hiker eats the driver or the driver eats the hitch hiker!  Who needs Alfred Hitchcock in the 21st Century? His freaky movies have now become real!

But there is a version of Business Hitch Hiking that is effective, powerful and creates a ton of new business and income.

Think Like a MillionaireThere is no denying that we are living in different times, a different economy, and different trends.  This all equates down to one thing, we must adapt our message and marketing methods to correspond with these changing times.  However, in the midst of these diversities, one thing has not changed and will forever stay a constant and that is the power of exposure.  This law in the past has been called the numbers game.

Marketing methods, products and services are always evolving, but those changes must reach the masses to be effective and fulfill their purpose.  No matter what you change in your business, product, marketing or message, the fact never changes that your results of success comes down to one thing and one thing only; the number of people you constantly reach to hear your message and given the opportunity to accept your offer.

Consistent exposure of your business and product to your target market is the number one key factor of both business and monetary success.  The reason being is, we cannot control if people say yes or no to our offer, but what we can control is how many people get to hear about our offer.  And after everything is said and done, the success of your business and product line is based on numbers.  How many people are hearing your story?

Please mark this on your wall and never forget it; An average product with superior exposure will out sell, out perform and create more profits, than a superior product with inferior exposure!

This is the exact reason why household names like Disneyland, Coke, and McDonald restaurants spend millions of dollars annually on advertising and exposure.  Do you think they invest all this money because they like spending money?  Just go work for them and when you get your first paycheck you will soon find out how frugal they are!

If you want to increase your sales, income, business and product line, take every opportunity you can to expose your business to the marketplace.  Here is a tip to maximize your exposure.  (It has been the foundation of how I built all three of my companies to levels that far exceed my income expectations and dreams).

Leverage:  Get others to tell your story, advertise and promote you.  They say word of mouth advertising is the best advertising in the world.  That has a lot of truth to it; the problem with that is, it usually is short lived.  The very best way to leverage yourself with getting others to market for you is what I like to refer to as Hitch Hiking Marketing.  Look, when people give you good word of mouth advertising, the longevity and depth of that kind of marketing is dependent upon that persons motivation and network.  Although highly appreciative, it is not a solid foundation to base your marketing efforts on.

However, if you can find a product, a company or service that you can ride along with into their markets, they are motivated to reach their markets for their own profit, you just happen to ride along with them.  In essence, they tell your story on their marketing dime.  Brian Tracy told me once that if you just look at what successful people (businesses) do, and follow their model, you can expect to get the results they get.  I took his advice and applied it to our publishing company back in 2006.  How did I sell and market over 200,000 printed copies of our Power of Mentorship books?  I got 19 other co-authors to join me in the book, and now instead of just me selling and marketing the book to my market, I have 19 co-authors who are going into their markets and as they do, my story, website, name and information is riding along (Hitch Hiking) at no cost.  Of course, it works the same way for them as well.  This is why you can go onto any search engine and just type in Power of Mentorship and we dominate the sites.

How else do I implement Hitch Hiking marketing? I take every opportunity to write forewords for books, give testimonials and endorsements for products and services I know are good.  Any place I can get my name or products to ride along on, I am there.

How do the big companies use leveraging to expand their business and use this exact same kind of Hitch Hiking Marketing?  It is called Sponsorship.  It is one of the most cost effective and result producing methods of leveraging you can use.  I take every opportunity I can to Sponsor projects.

If you can find a successful company or product, they are going to spend thousands upon thousands of dollars on getting their product into the marketplace.  They are going to reach markets and people that would be virtually impossible for you to reach.   And by understanding the power of sponsorship, you can tie your company into this massive stream of marketing by simply riding on their marketing dime.

It is the epitome of leveraging yourself, your company and your products to grow your company and increase your profits for pennies on the dollar.  Once again, as Brian Tracy said; If you do what the successful do, you can expect to have what the successful have.

Show me any company or product that is not growing, and I can assure you it boils down to one thing; lack of exposure, not getting in front of enough people.  So, to ensure the success of what you do, stick out your thumb and hitch a ride on the next power train that is going where you want to go; in front of a lot of people!

Hitch Hiking Marketing is the best advice I ever received and for sure was the smartest and most profitable bit of advice I ever implemented.  I hope you follow my example, I truly believe that if you do, like me, you will far surpass your expectations!

The Hidden Secret to Wealth

Do you realize that money is just a symbol for value?  What you have is your report card of what you give.  Your bank account reflects your value account.  If you watch the actions, mindset and habits of the average person or business that is struggling financially, you will find that they are more interested in making money than they are in producing value.

There is one thing that you cannot do and that is deceive the business market.  The business market only responds to releasing its funds to value.  How do you create value in the market place, your customer, family or for your fellowmen?  I have found four powerful ways.

  1. Dump the Scarcity Mindset

This kind of mindset is the reason people live a life and/or run a business that is based on making money instead of adding or creating value for people.  Thus, they struggle in finances and in every other area of their life that they apply this method.  They do this because of an internal belief (paradigm) that there is not enough for everyone and in order for them to have enough they must somehow win the battle and get yours.

groupbooksRecently I met a very bright young man (in his twenties) who has a young family to support and was making just enough to get by.  I had the opportunity to take him to lunch a couple of times and he really wanted me to mentor and help him.  I gave him a small job for one day, working in my office and offered to pay him $500.00 for the day.  The first thing he asked me was when I would pay him?  Then he asked how long did he have to work?  Then he wanted to know if lunch was included.

It was not that this young man was lazy, nor did he intend to come across like someone walking around in a fog, it was just that he had the mindset of being more interested in what he got verses in what he could give.  Although he has great potential, this type of mindset will keep him locked into poverty and just getting by.

I have a family member that he too suffers from this great peril of a scarcity mindset, and like the young man above, does not have two quarters to rub together from his paycheck.  As I observed him the other day as we were eating out, I could not take his rude behavior of not waiting for anyone else to eat, but getting his plate he dives right in, chewing with his mouth open and not caring of his manner.  I slammed my fist on the table and said David (not his real name) “How does it feel being the only person on the planet?”  He looked up at me and said, “I wish I was, that way I could have everything just for me”.  Pathetic but very sad, sad that he lives like this and sad that millions of people operate and run their business and life with this mindset.

If you want to spot a winner, become aware of those you eat out with.  A winner will always pick up the check; a loser will always expect you to pick up the check.  On a good day, a loser may say, “I will get the tip” and then leave a dollar!   You cannot possibly get ahead in life or financially with a scarcity paradigm or mindset.

  1. Be on a Mission

Ask yourself everyday, “How can I bring my customer, marketplace, people, friends, business and family more value?  This is a foundational principle that we run our company and our lives by.  Does this mean you should give away your product or service? Yes, sometimes.  Let me give you an example.  Our mission and purpose is to give people the opportunity to better their lives.  One way that I do that is by giving away a free Mentorship book and a free Mentorship kit.  But, my mission is to help people not waste or throw away money.  So, when people go to my website at www.DonBoyerAuthor.com to get their free book or Mentorship kit, I ask them to pay the small S/H fee.  If someone is not willing to pay the shipping charge to get a free book or kit that thousands have paid full price for, they are not the ones I can help.

When we first launched this offer, I had a friend tell me, “What a great marketing plan”.  I said, “I am not doing this as a marketing plan, I am doing it this way so that I can bring value to those who want to improve themselves and not waste money on those who only want a free ride in life”.

When I write about bringing value to people, you do have to use some common sense.  There is a great difference between giving value and wasting money.  My view is, you feed a Jack Ass corn not gold!  Value should be given to those who deserve value (which is most people). Do you know the ones in your life who deserve gold and those that deserve corn?  Your ability to know the difference will be a key factor in your overall success.

  1. Million Dollar Service

Create a plan to give people what I call “Million Dollar Service”.  Model it after the kind of service you receive from an exclusive hotel or high-end restaurant.  Make a list of 5 things you can do for your customers that are above and beyond your call of duty.  Small things can create a big impact.  It is very important that you base those jesters off the foundation of value and caring for people.

Do not use it as a means to dig deeper into their pockets, or a con job of horse doo-doo, but instead as a means to say “Thank You” and “I really appreciate your business”.  In other words, make it true value that comes from the heart of service.

  1. Develop the Trust Factor

This is one of if not the most important thing you must develop if you plan to have long-term success in your business, finances, relationships and life.  People must trust you.  This is a characteristic you cannot fake.  People invest in my services because of one main factor, they trust me.  Trust is something you cannot buy or borrow, it must be earned.  Trust comes from being transparent and honest with people, being a master of what you do, your product or service being the best on the market and you providing unparalleled value.

If you develop the reputation that you cannot be trusted, plan on living like a vagabond in the business world.  Being a person that cannot be trusted to keep your word, commitments or conducting business where you are always ending up with the bigger stick is a sure path to financial and business ruin.  If you cannot trust someone to return a phone call, do you think you can trust them to return value for your money?

The fastest path to cash is to understand, when you increase your value to the market place, you automatically increase your income and profits.  Work on creating value, and the money will take of itself.

The Skill of Seeing Opportunity…

The story is told of Thomas Edison at the height of his career and fame once went into his shop and asked one of his young employees what was his number one goal was in the whole wide world?   Without hesitation the young apprentice replied, “Oh Mr. Edison I want to wealthy like you”.  Mr. Edison smiled without saying a word and left the building.

A short time later Mr. Edison returned with a pair of glasses in which he replaced the lens with silver dollars.  He asked the young man who had told him that his greatest dream was to be wealthy to put on the glasses and tell what he saw.  The young man put on the pair of glasses and replied, “Mr. Edison, I don’t see anything”.  Mr. Edison then told the young man, “that is your problem, money is right in front of your eyes and you cannot even see it!”

Everyone has a millionaire within.

 

If there was anything my Millionaire Mentors taught me they taught me the skill of spotting and “Seeing Opportunity”.  If there is one thing that shocks me still after being in the personal development industry for over thirty years is the thousands of people who cannot see “Opportunity” when it is sitting there right in front of their eyes.  Everyday millions of people wake up and complain about their terrible circumstances in life, when standing right in front of them calling their name is the Opportunity to changes those unfavorable conditions.

However, seeing opportunity is only half of the equation of success, the second part which is just as important as seeing it is the ability to “Take Action on Opportunity” People have burned to death in a burning building because they were afraid to jump even though there were firemen and a net ready to catch them to safety.  They were aware of the horrible situation; they saw the opportunity to save themselves from a burning building but stood there frozen and not take action.

It is important to take some time today and look around at the dozens of opportunities that are knocking on your door.  Learn to become proficient in seeing opportunity and then make sure you work on developing the self discipline to take action on those opportunities.  Playing it safe, procrastinating, and waiting for the perfect conditions can all be a death warrant to your future finances.

I will close with the wisdom that Bob Proctor taught one morning when I was having an early breakfast with him in Scottsdale, Arizona.  We were talking about decision making and its importance.  He looked at me and said, “Don the way you make the right decision every time is to ask yourself two questions;

  1. Will this decision move me closer to my dreams?
  2. Is this decision in harmony with what I am doing? 

If you answer yes to both those questions, you move forward and make that decision.  You don’t worry if you have the money, ability, resources, time, energy or anything else, once you make the right decision based on those two questions everything else you need will show up.

That wisdom that Bob Proctor taught me many years ago has served me well and has never failed or let me down, even when it went against (and many times it did) conventional thinking and apparent evidence to do other wise.

Remember this economy we are in today is not the cause of your lack, but it does demand that you take responsibility for your results in life.
