Definition to Success

 “Success is not a Destination, Success is a Definition”.  The reason so many people feel like failures is not just from a lack of results or the missing of set goals.  The biggest culprit is not knowing what Success means to them. There is no such thing as a public standard to measure success with because it’s not a title, rank, position or income destination, it is a personalized definition based on your own standards.  What success means to me may not mean to you.  For me sticking with my health and exercise program warrants total success in my mind and heart.

I would encourage you to take some time out and create your own definition of Success.  What does it really mean to you?  The worst place to measure Success is from other people and what they are doing.  Success can only be measured by what it means to you, the value and the meaning you place on it.  Once you come to terms of what success means to you write down in big letters “This Is What Success Means To Me…(Your Name)”! and then below it write out your definition.  The great thing about this is you can and will change it throughout your life time.

When I was ten years old Success meant throwing a fast ball batters could not hit.  On my 55th birthday my adult kids talked me into throwing a fast ball at Knott’s Berry Farm which almost sent me to the hospital in an ambulance.  It felt like my shoulder broke in two.

I promise you my definition of success is no longer throwing fast balls!

For millions of people earning a million dollars a year seems like a lot of money, but if Bill Gates only made a million dollars a year he would be asking his wife to sign them up for food stamps.  You cannot make Success a destination you can only make it your definition.

Create Big Dreams

White fluffy clouds in the blue skyMake your Dreams so Big you don’t have time for Drama.  Make them so magnificent that you don’t have time to get “Distracted”. Make them so personal and desirable that you don’t have room to get “Discouraged”. Create Big Dreams and then…set small goals?  Hugh? What?  Did Don get affected by the Blood Moons did he grow a hump on his back, hair on his butt and lose his marbles too?  No, no, no.  The reason most people give up on their dreams before they achieve them is because they set their goals the exact same size of their dreams.

Your Dream is your desired destination and your goals are the steps that get you there.  If your goals are too high you will not be able to reach them and it will halt your entire Journey and you will abandon your dreams.  Yes create a big Dream then go about every day setting doable, reasonable and achievable daily goals.  The way we reach our dreams is to keep moving towards them and never stop.  Like A.L. Williams was famous for saying “All you can do is all you can do but all you can do is Enough”!

Resolving Obstacles

Problems, struggles and challenges do not go way because we want them too, they don’t dissolve even if we desperately need them to go away.  The only way obstacles are resolved and overcome is by dealing with them.  Because it is much easier to focus on doing the things we enjoy in life and business it becomes very easy to ignore issues that we would rather not deal with.  However, whenever we have areas that need to be addressed unless we address them head on they do not go away but in fact get worse.

Living a successful and abundant life requires daily discipline, growth and investment in you.  Look at your life as the greatest investment on earth.  What are you daily putting in? Because what you put in is what you put out.  It is the same with our money.  How we look and view our money will determine our financial future.  Nobody could possibly deny the economy problem we are facing globally. One cannot deny the fact that the US dollar is in serious trouble and that we are headed for another 1929 financial crash.  People in 1929 were warned 3 years before the crash that is was coming.  The ones saying that were labeled “Crazy Fanatics” that should be put in a mental hospital.  It was the “Roaring 20’s” how could they have a financial collapse?

What you need to know about setting goals.

Don’t set goals for 2014 instead give your subconscious instructions to fulfill in 2014. You will be far more productive in reaching them than by setting just goals.  Most goals are dreams and destinations that the intellectual and conscience mind is ill equipped to accomplish and that is why most goals are never reached and soon abandoned. New Year’s Resolutions are an embarrassing joke and is never something successful people allow themselves to take part in.

However, when we take those so called goals and dreams and convert them into “Instructions” for our subconscious mind, our subconscious mind which is by far capable and in fact designed to fulfill those instructions, we find that those things start to show up or manifest in our life without the help, aid and struggle of our intellectual mind.

The most important aspect of life, business and success is to understand the correct usage of both our conscience and subconscious mind.  When you learn and practice this you will find that you wake up every morning with excitement and joy for another day of living…(despite what is going on around you in life).

Just Give It A Try…

As a child (and somewhat as an adult) to say I was (am) a picky eater would be a massive understatement. No matter how hard my mom would try, or how fierce her warnings were, she had one heck of a time trying to get me to eat anything new.  Her famous words were “Just Give It A Try”.  My famous reply was “I don’t like it”.  “How do you know you don’t like it?” she would ask me, in which I would say, “It looks funny and smells bad”.

The Skill of Seeing Opportunity…

The story is told of Thomas Edison at the height of his career and fame once went into his shop and asked one of his young employees what was his number one goal was in the whole wide world?   Without hesitation the young apprentice replied, “Oh Mr. Edison I want to wealthy like you”.  Mr. Edison smiled without saying a word and left the building.

A short time later Mr. Edison returned with a pair of glasses in which he replaced the lens with silver dollars.  He asked the young man who had told him that his greatest dream was to be wealthy to put on the glasses and tell what he saw.  The young man put on the pair of glasses and replied, “Mr. Edison, I don’t see anything”.  Mr. Edison then told the young man, “that is your problem, money is right in front of your eyes and you cannot even see it!”

Everyone has a millionaire within.

 

If there was anything my Millionaire Mentors taught me they taught me the skill of spotting and “Seeing Opportunity”.  If there is one thing that shocks me still after being in the personal development industry for over thirty years is the thousands of people who cannot see “Opportunity” when it is sitting there right in front of their eyes.  Everyday millions of people wake up and complain about their terrible circumstances in life, when standing right in front of them calling their name is the Opportunity to changes those unfavorable conditions.

However, seeing opportunity is only half of the equation of success, the second part which is just as important as seeing it is the ability to “Take Action on Opportunity” People have burned to death in a burning building because they were afraid to jump even though there were firemen and a net ready to catch them to safety.  They were aware of the horrible situation; they saw the opportunity to save themselves from a burning building but stood there frozen and not take action.

It is important to take some time today and look around at the dozens of opportunities that are knocking on your door.  Learn to become proficient in seeing opportunity and then make sure you work on developing the self discipline to take action on those opportunities.  Playing it safe, procrastinating, and waiting for the perfect conditions can all be a death warrant to your future finances.

I will close with the wisdom that Bob Proctor taught one morning when I was having an early breakfast with him in Scottsdale, Arizona.  We were talking about decision making and its importance.  He looked at me and said, “Don the way you make the right decision every time is to ask yourself two questions;

  1. Will this decision move me closer to my dreams?
  2. Is this decision in harmony with what I am doing? 

If you answer yes to both those questions, you move forward and make that decision.  You don’t worry if you have the money, ability, resources, time, energy or anything else, once you make the right decision based on those two questions everything else you need will show up.

That wisdom that Bob Proctor taught me many years ago has served me well and has never failed or let me down, even when it went against (and many times it did) conventional thinking and apparent evidence to do other wise.

Remember this economy we are in today is not the cause of your lack, but it does demand that you take responsibility for your results in life.
