Where There Is Smoke There Is Fire…

At a private lunch with Brian Tracy and the cast of the Journey Movie (www.EmbracetheJourney.net) Brian was sharing some outstanding business advice with all of us.  One thing he said that really stood out and rang a bell with me was; “When you are sharing your business opportunity with your friends and they tell you they are Broke…Believe Them!”  Not only did I laugh so hard I almost CIMG0733farted but I didn’t because I have strong butt muscles, it also took me back in memory 30 years when I would ask, plead, beg and try to convince broke people over and over to buy my product or join my company.  That is like trying to get an infant to be your limousine driver.  Having a mother who was a savvy business owner and entrepreneur, I grew up in an environment of business lingo.  One thing my mother always would say, and I can remember it as far back as 8 years old (I will be 54 this Friday June 14, 2013) is “Where There Is Smoke, There Is Fire”.  After 30 years in business what Brian Tracy said and what my mother used to say is so true.

What I have experienced in all these years of business and working with thousands of people in every field is this, “What you first find in a person, you will find more of it down the road”.  It has never failed when there are signs of trouble up front with a company, a prospect or customer, rough waters will be the platform of that relationship.

When dealing with perspective customers and clients watch out for these warning signs…

  1. If they are broke walk away and don’t try to force your product on them, you will usually lose your product and your profit. 
  1. If they want a payment plan it’s usually a pretty good sign they are broke. 
  1. Those who want to pay less want the most in return. 
  1. If they cannot make a quick buying decision go get a rectal exam, it’s a lot less painful than dealing with this kind of person. 
  1. If they are difficult in the first meeting, lots of unreasonable requests on their part will be in your future. 
  1. Most difficult prospects and customers have a pattern of taking advantage of people and make that their method of operation. 
  1. If they want to make payments they will usually default or find fault with your product or service and try to get it for free or a discount. 
  1. And last but not least, like Brian Tracy said, when they tell you they are broke…believe them.  And as my mom would say…where there is smoke, there is fire! 

Early detection and knowing what signs to look for in dealing with potential and future customers will save you thousands of dollars and untold amounts of grief and misery.  Many years ago I was given a bit of advice from a very wise network marketing Mentor.  The meeting had already started and I was waiting for my guest in the lobby pacing back and forth. I spent a small fortune on dimes in the phone booth (this was way before cell phones were around) trying to call this person at home and of course no answer, (they had not invented answering machines yet either).

As it got later and later and my heart kept sinking deeper and deeper a wise Mentor looked at me and she said; “It’s better to find out early that they are not the right ones than later when you have invested time and money in them”. 

don and brianLearn to qualify your customers and you will make more money, have more peace and love your career a whole lot more.  So the next time you are giving a presentation to someone and you smell smoke, run like Hell and call 911 because there is fire just around the corner!

Predictable Wealth

If we are not careful it is very easy to fall into the illusional trap of believing that money, and wealth, even cash flow is evasive and unpredictable.  And for many professionals and business owners it absolutely is.  However, it is not because Wealth is unpredictable, but it’s because people have never learned the set principles that govern wealth and how to master them to such a way that wealth becomes as predictable as the morning Sun.

I have the utmost respect for all my teachers and Mentors who taught me the life skills of the Law of Attraction and I am a hundred percent believer in this Law of Life and use and promote this principle myself.  However, stating that, I have seen a lot of people who did not understand the complete Law of Attraction and thus become bitterly disappointed and frustrated because they did not obtain the results they were seeking.

law of attractionWhen it comes to using the Law of Attraction I think Brian Tracy has been a shinning beacon of light in this matter, to help us all learn and understand the proper use of this dynamic law.  You see, many people have this thought pattern that the Law of Attraction eliminates the Law of Hard Work.  The Truth of the Matter, like Brian teaches, Hard Work actually activates the Law of Attraction.

Here is what I have learned and experienced about the Law of Attraction and the Law of Hard Work…

It is the law of hard work, and massive activity that produces the miracle process of prosperity, cash flow, customer retention, business growth and “Predictable Wealth”. 

Here is a little exercise for the 3 percent group (the 97 percent group of the masses will just look at this exercise, scratch their ass and continue to wonder why they are broke)

Write down you goal that you want to earn every Month.

Now, write down your current marketing plan you are using to grow your business and sales and compare them to your monthly income goal and ask yourself if the marketing plan you are using right now is going to get you that monthly income goal?

This business and financial acid test is the beginning process to get you to start using the principles of Predictable Wealth.  If we ever hope to achieve financial independence the first person we must stop lying to about our circumstances is to ourselves!  There is nothing worse than not knowing or being able to depend on a constant predictable cash flow or monthly income, but that problem is easily resolved by having a proper marketing plan in place.

If you are an Entrepreneur, business owner, professional, salesperson, part-time business owner, coach, speaker, network marketer, or have an on-line business, you can Predict your Wealth by looking at your marketing system, which is simply the method you use to obtain and retain customers and clients.

If you do not have a solid, proven Marketing Plan and System in place that you are using everyday to increase your customer base and sales, the “Grim Reaper” of business failure is hot on your trail and it will only be a matter of time before he catches you and does things to you that would not be done to a farm animal!

Whenever I speak to professionals and business people, I ask them “what is their marketing plan to attract new customers and increase sales on a monthly basis is’.  The majority it’s sad to report have nothing solid in place, as they scramble to hide, get around or dodge the question, I see this big sign stamped on their forehead “Business Death Sentence”. 

Let me share a personal story with you.  Ever since I was a teenager, I had this uncanny compassion for the poor and those struggling with financial need.  It was compassion so strong that it compelled me when I was sixteen years old to take half my pay check on Friday and go to skid row in Los Angeles, California and give money to all the people living on the streets.

I had no clue or idea why I was like this, or felt this way.  In fact, in my twenties, I prayed that God would make me a Millionaire so I could help people who struggled financially. In fact even to this day, when I see people driving around in a Junkie old car with no air conditioner, black smoke coming from the tail pipe, crack windshield and a bunch of kids in the back seat, it makes me realize why I go to the marketplace everyday and shout that there is a better way.  You do not have to live in lack and shortage.

All anyone must do is just stop and take the time to Learn how to change things!  When I see once prosperous business people, fighting to stay afloat, I know that they do not see the answer to their problem, and that is why we are so vehement to try to wake everyone up to the fact that…”The Answer to Prosperity Is Not In Positive Thinking or The Law of Attraction, it is having a Solid Proven Marketing Plan that you implement with Massive Activity Everyday.

Tough As Nails

“News Flash”

If you are going to survive let alone thrive in business you have to be “Tough As Nails”.  Being in business for yourself many times means being in business by yourself and that can be a very daunting experience.  Yes we may have supporters, vendors, and business associates and maybe even employees, but the bottom line is when everyone else goes home, we are left with all the responsibility of business on our shoulders.  There are many times in business that you have to make hard, difficult, sometimes gut wrenching decisions and that requires you to be tough as nails.

Sometimes when you are stuck in business and the wolf is coming to get you, you have to chew your own foot off to break free and escape.  As one man said, “You can’t crawl out of the mud you have to Explode Out of the Mud!”  Listen, Superman or Superwomen have nothing on the Business Entrepreneur.

BusinessIf you are a true Business Entrepreneur even the devil himself gets rectal leakage when he sees you coming!

I often think back to my mentor the late legendary Jim Rohn tell a group of us when we were facing difficult times, “Don’t pray for things to get easier, pray that you get stronger”.  So much wisdom in so few words; I wish I could sit here and tell you that I could make you successful and although the marketplace is filled with “Gurus” who proclaim they can guarantee you success (after you send them $29.95) the truth of the matter is…

“No one can guarantee you Success the best we can do is offer you tools that give you a Fighting Chance to Succeed” 

Ultimately, success or failure is the sole result of what we do or don’t do; the action we take or fail to take leads us down the path of success or the path of failure.  The choice alone is ours.  As a speaker, Mentor and success coach for the past 30 years, the hardest thing I have had to over come was my desire of wanting success for others more than they wanted it for themselves.  Taking that stance creates more pain and disappointment than you want to bear and the fact is, you cannot force anyone to take the necessary actions to give them what they claim they want…Success.

The American Dream of Financial Independence is Alive and Doing Well, and you can have that Dream if…You Simply Take the Time to Learn How to Get It. 

That statement will do more than cause you to double and triple your income, that bit of advice will take you into the Millionaire Zone.  If you are not at the financial place that you want to be at, it’s because you simply have not yet learned how to do it.  When I look back on all the good fortune as well as all the failure I have experienced in business I could pinpoint the “Why” it happened in both circumstances.  Let me share it with you to save you some heartache.

When I succeed it was because I filled by gun chamber with daily, massive, marketing and prospecting bullets and when I failed, I did not. It is as simple as that.  If I had to go into the jungle of business and I only had one tool or weapon I could take, it would be a proven marketing system.  In the world of business you have King Kong, Big Foot and Godzilla all wanting to slap your buns with yellow mustard and eat you like a hot toasty sandwich.  The only way you can defend yourself (and your buns) is having a rock solid, proven marketing system that attracts customers into a buying environment.  As long as you have that you can thrive in the marketplace.  As far as all the other pitfalls of business…well you can handle that because you are “Tough As Nails”.  Right now, there are hundreds of thousands of people buying what you are selling; my closing question to you is…What are you doing to make yourself visible to all those customers who have money in their hand?  A proven marketing plan makes you stand out like a Neon Sign to those who want to put money in your bank account.
