The Bible contains some of the greatest success, selling, marketing and business growth secrets known to mankind.  They are secrets not because they are hidden but because so few employ them.  However, those that do use and put these solid principles into play find that their biblebusiness expansion and income growth begin to rise exponentially.  Before we go into detail what these business and marketing secrets are lets look at 3 methods that many professionals employ with the expectation and hope that this will increase their customer base, customer acquisition and client retention.

Excitement: There is no debate that one must be excited about their company, product and service however; misplaced excitement is the number one error of most professionals.  Expecting the sale to be a by product of your excitement or that it is your job to transfer your excitement to the prospect in order to get them to purchase is misplaced excitement.  Excitement is designed to keep you in the game and not quite during hard times. It is designed to keep you “sold” on your company and product line.  In order for you to win you have to keep excited and nothing kills that excitement more than when we expect or hope that our excitement will close the deal…and find it doesn’t. 
  1. Moving to Fast:  Marketing, Prospecting and then Selling is like the fine art of dating with the objective of marriage.  Moving to fast up front will mess up the whole deal.  No integral (or intelligent) persons want to go from the first date to the bedroom.  That plan can and usually does lead to disastrous results.  What leads to relational success is taking the proper steps of bonding. 
  1. No System:   A professional system is comprised of initial exposure, growing tank, and then a harvesting process.  This writing does not give me the time or space to elaborate on this system but my other writings do, make sure you get them. 

Now that we know what the top 3 mistakes of marketing and selling are, let’s focus on the number one Success Secret of growing your business that is taught in the Bible.

Gift Giving to Grow Your Business and Income 

In the book of Proverbs King Solomon one of the wealthiest men that ever walked the earth wrote; “Your Gift Giving (that is how it is written in Hebrew) will make room for you and bring you before Great Leaders”.  Great leader’s referrers to decision makers, those who have the power to say Yes to your offer.  Are you sending your prospects and customers appropriate gifts?  Are you using a gift to grow your business?

Just look to nature to understand this law.  You have to first sow a seed in order to get a harvest.  You have to put wood in first, then you get heat.  You have to release the air in your lungs in order to get more fresh air in.  You have to put gas in your car before you can get to your destination.

The Latte Master…

When it comes to staying ahead of our sinking economy and becoming one of the top income earners in your industry I have always shared that your top ingredient is that you have to set yourself apart from your lattecompetition.  If you want a technical name for this it is called your Unique Selling Proposition (USP) or Unique Selling Position.  You have to ask yourself continually “What am I doing to make myself unique and different in the marketplace?” “What makes me stand out, get noticed but most importantly get remembered?”

If you want to have the competitive slight edge that is a must requirement to win in business and qualify you for high income earnings, your ability to make yourself different is the secret ingredient.  Many professionals use gifts as a way of customer or prospect leverage and although this method is effective it can be very risky and hard to get it just right.  Get it wrong and the outcome can be disastrous, get it extremely wrong and you could end up in the “Poky” having the gift being termed an illegal bribe.

What do I recommend as a nice appropriate gift for a customer or a prospect that is both classy and appropriate? The Law of Accomplishment

Activity is only effective when it leads to accomplishment.  Many people get activity confused with productivity and that is simply not the case.  sustainablewealthAlthough daily, massive and persistent marketing activity is a must requirement for business and income growth, activity must be managed, planned and evaluated to make sure it leads to accomplishment and not just busy activity.

Most professionals are extremely busy but fail to achieve what they seek because of misdirected and misuse of their activity.  Activity that is not specifically designed to accomplish a set goal gives us a false sense of achievement without the results of accomplishment.  Our activity has to be brutally evaluated and monitored to make sure it is accomplishing what we set out to do.  The best way to do this is by keeping track of actual numbers, activity actions and results on Paper.  Numbers don’t lie and seeing it on paper visually brings the reality and results of our activity to a stunning awareness.

Many times that reality is going to be like an ice-cold shower, a stinging slap in the face and a jolting impact that makes your choppers rattle and poly grip glue come loose.  Activity is warm and fuzzy, it releases the endorphins in our brain, it makes us feel good but if your activity is not producing the results you want it is an optical illusion that is disastrous for your business, income, career and future success.

If you focus on what you want to achieve first and then plan your activity around that, it will help you keep on track and become productive in your daily routine.  Activity is like a missal or rocket, once it’s fired out it is all over the place and unless it is controlled and monitored it gets off track and never hits its target.

Here are 5 Rules to manage and control your activity to make sure that itsipadthejourney end result is accomplishment.

1. Don’t Give Up:   Don’t give up just because things get challenging and the road gets narrow and bumpy. Every path to success is riddled with rocks, bumps, logs, mountains, challenges, set backs, failures and disappointments.  If you do not want to travel on a path like this you are better off working for “Hot Dog on a Stick” in the Mall wearing those big funny hats standing there with a big crowd watching you go up and down on a block of lemonade ice that has the look and connotation of erotic movements. One thing for sure, those uniforms removes all doubt where and who you work for!

2. Evaluate Your Activity:   Refuse to do enjoyable activity that does not bring about accomplishment instead of engaging in less fulfilling activity that brings the results you want and desire.  Ask yourself if the activity you are doing is bringing you closer to your goals and dreams.  If they are not, they are the wrong activities for the moment.

3. Put A Price Tag:   Put a price tag on your activity.  What is your activity paying you or is it costing you?  No activity is neutral, it brings gain or loss.  When you put a price tag on your activities you become keenly aware of those who waste your time and bring distractions through worthless “Chit Chat”.  However, many times the intruder is not the culprit the culprit is our self welcoming the distraction so that we can escape from the activity that will bring us what we truly want.  If you plan to become a millionaire your hourly rate is $500.00 an hour.  Never do $15.00 an hour activity when you need to be working on $500.00 an hour activities.  There is a reason why most millionaires do not wash their own car or mow their own lawns…have you figured it out yet?

4. Determine: Upfront, determine what activity it will take to accomplish what you want and then focus all your time and energy on that activity alone until your desired result is achieved. This is much easier said then done and this is the reason why having your activities evaluated on paper and with actual numbers is so important.  It lets you know when you are off track and how to get back on track.

5. Refuse to Fear: The fear of not reaching or achieving our goals has a way of stopping effective activity and turning it into zero activity.  I have a poster right next to my computer that reads, “If I Do Nothing, Nothing Gets Done”.  Everyday I get up and look at my plans and activities and make sure they are in alignment to my target and goals I want to accomplish.  Ask yourself what it is that you really want to accomplish in your life and business and then take effective activity to achieve it!

The E-Book Marketplace Phenomena is truly the Average Persons businesswinning ticket to a Famous Persons Pot of Gold!  E-books have now created the opportunity for those with very little former Celebrity Status to capitalize on the wealth of the world.

Let me start off by telling you a true story;

My mind races back to 1970 when I was just a kid and would love to watch the Walton’s on T.V.  Perhaps my favorite character was John-Boy because I could identify with him wanting to be a writer.  Since the age of 12 years old I knew that I wanted to be a writer.  When I read an ad in a comic book; How to Become a Writer, I rustled some money from my folks and sent for the home course.

The Gift…

Every human being on the planet was given a special gift at birth.  For some it was musical, others mechanical, athletics, business, the arts, compassion, visionary, organizational, detail and a host of other ones.  The great journey of life is to discover your gift and make full potential of it.  To find it, develop it and treasure it is one of the great success secrets of life.

sunset and happy manThe important thing to remember is everyone has a gift within and it is designed to use without to benefit one self and others.  The great tragedy of life is the untapped, undiscovered and wasted Gift that lies within.  They say the graveyard is filled with buried treasure because of all the books, ideas, businesses, tools, answers and cures that died with the people who never developed them while they were alive on earth.

What is your gift?  Why are you here on planet earth and what are you meant to contribute?  Everyone has been given a Gift.  The discovery and then the development of your Gift is what makes life fulfilling, exciting, adventurous, and a key factor in bringing monetary wealth into your life.

The other important aspect to be aware of is that most people are multiple gifted, they have been given many gifts and each one must be discovered, developed, nurtured, maintained and put to use.

“Others are getting paid for knowing things you don’t” (but could and should know). 

A man was at the market and was looking over 2 loaves of bread that were exactly the same, however one had a price of $2.00 and the other was $2.75.  When he asked the clerk what was the difference between the two exact loaves of bread, the clerk paused then said “The loaf that is $2.75 cost more”.   I think this Jack Ass was twin brother to the auto mechanic who went on a call when a friend of mine had his car break down on the road.  The mechanic came out, looked under the hood, pounded on this and pounded on that then closed the hood.  He walked over to my friend who asked “What’s wrong with my car?”  The mechanic looked at him and replied “It’s broke down”.

This is the reason I tell Melinda sometimes, everyone drinks but me and I groupbooksam the one who needs it the most!  It’s Friday so let’s have a little fun with one more of my true but funny stories.  I got an email back yesterday from a member that I was offering a really valuable free gift to.  Now remember, this member got a free membership with lots of great content over the past three months, we also sent him a physical package of books, CD’s DVD’s with a retail value of over $300.00 absolutely Free and Postpaid.  He never sent one penny to our company, and received hundreds of dollars with of products from us at no cost.  Then when I sent an email to our members offering to write an ad copy piece for them for free he sends me an email that says;  “I cancelled my membership three weeks ago and I never got a refund”.  A Refund!  A refund on what???  Is this guy smoking his crusty shorts while watching porno flicks?

I Hope Things Get Better…

Have you ever heard any one say “I hope things get better”?  Of course you have and perhaps this is even something you say on a consistent basis.  Many people are buckling under the pressure of everyday life of business, work and finances.  I had a stranger ask me today if I ever bought Lotto tickets. I told him no, never.  He glazed off in deep thought and said, “It’s the only way out of this financial misery everyone is in”.

When you do not understand or practice the fundamentals of sound business principles then you don’t have much choice but to live your life on the basis of “I Hope Things Get Better”.  The problem with this philosophy is that things rarely get better but has an automatic tendency of getting worse!  Living this way is like speeding down the highway, closing your eyes and let go of the steering wheel and then “Hope Things Get Better”.  You can see why they rarely do.

The good new is however, you can move from “I Hope Things Get Better” to “I Know Things Are Going To Get Better”.  The transition comes when we do certain things that we know will cause things to get better.

I have a lot of people tell me their problems and after I let them ramble on for a while I ask them a simple question; “What are you doing about them”.  That usually gets that same symptom of the bottom lip begin quivering, the top lip start moving but no words come out.  Then out of some kind of desperation they let out a Monster growl like Ahhhhhhhh!

Everyone goes through tough times; it is a process and cycle of life.  The jjimrohn_seated_2late and legendary Jim Rohn called them the Seasons of Life.  The important thing to comprehend is the importance of developing the skill of doing proactive actions that change those challenging times.  When you are practicing the fundamentals of business you move from “I Hope Things Get Better” to “I Know Things Will Get Better” because you are doing the things that will make them better.

Daily Marketing  After all is said and done, after all the fancy wrapper is stripped away, the impressive vernacular is put back, when the make up comes off selling comes down to a numbers game.  The numbers game, its old, its simple, but its accurate and dependable.  The degree of your long-term success in selling and business will be a reflection of how many people hear your offer. 
  1. Massive Exposure   The old saying of “It’s not what you know but who you know” has a twin sibling “Its not who you know it’s who knows about you”.  The more people who know about you, your company and product line the more business you are going to do.  This is based on the law of the built-in market.  There are thousands of people worldwide that want to buy what you are selling.  And the only reason you have not gotten rich so far is not enough people know about you.  Once your name, branding, company or product hits massive exposure the momentum of increase in business and profits begin to grow exponentially. 

So when things get tough and challenging (and they will) you can look people in the eye and say “I Know Things Are Going To Get Better”.  And iflaw of attraction anyone ask how you know that you can simply tell them…”Because I Am Doing the Things to Make Them Better”.  Knowing and practicing these three business insights will help you get a better night sleep, remove fear and stress from your heart and renew your strength to keep moving on!

Find Out Fast and Upfront…

If you base your selling results on hope and expectation you are headed for lots of bitter disappointment and discouragement, not to mention making your job a lot more difficult and earning a lot less money.  After ladymad2watching a brutal interaction between a salesman and a manager yesterday at lunch (I will share that story with you on a future blog) I told Melinda, “If you do not know what you are doing, Selling is a brutal job.  And if you know what you are doing…Selling is still a brutal job!”

If you are going to survive and succeed in the Selling Arena you are going to have to completely change your mindset and philosophy about selling. And the first thing you need to learn is that “It’s better to find out fast and upfront if this prospect is the right one or not” Do not waste your time, energy and resources on those who are not willing or ready to purchase your product. The worst misery you can put yourself through is dealing with a “Tire Kicker”.  These folks should be sent straight to Hell in my opinion.  They will waste your time, have you jump through all kinds of hoops, have you lower your price again and again, add more free services, require more referrals and after all that with your hair in complete disarray from exhaustion, your tongue hanging down to your knee caps and panting like a chased deer, they pull their head out of their Ass and decide not to buy right now!

There is not a salesperson on the planet that desperately needed that big sale, had it all locked in, already spent the commission, done deal only to find at the very last-minute something came up and the sale fell through. That makes you want to open the window and jump off the 23rd story of the building!   You know the experience, the contract wasn’t faxed over when it was supposed to, the final call did not come in as expected, the phone call went straight to voice mail, and you get this horrible gut feeling that something is wrong.  You know at any moment you are about to fly into a full blown panic attack.  All of a sudden, you go from party animal to prayer warrior!

We go through this whole horrible sales experience because our entire selling mindset and marketing method is all wrong. The first being, we operate our selling path from Hope and Expectation instead of Systems and Qualification. Never calculate and for sure not spend your future income from sales based on “Expectation” and hope.  Calculate your income after the check has cleared!

As one young salesman going out for the first time on a sales call looked back and asked his sales manager if there is anything he should remember to do and the sales manager yelled back “Get the Check!” 

If you are dealing with a prospect that has gone through the check points of your marketing system and you qualified that prospect and they are ready and willing to buy that is the time you roll out the Red Carpet, lay down your life and treat them as pure Royalty.  You now start the process of “Knock their Socks Off Service”.

Back in 1999 my nephew listed some high-end sports equipment on e-bay and made $1800.00 in a couple of days.  I asked him how in the heck he did that.  He said, “I didn’t know what I was doing, I just threw them up there and said this is how much they are, you want it or you don’t”.  If you want to become a high income earner in the world of selling these are the 3 tips that will help you get there.

  1. Stop Emotional Selling:   This is what most sales professionals practice.  They get super excited when they make a sale and utterly discouraged when they lose a sale.  This will put you into an early grave or drive you out of the industry and/or business.  I refuse to mix high emotions and selling together.  
  2. Start Systematic Selling:   Systematic Selling is not based on emotions, hope or expectation but intentional proven systems of activity, marketing and exposure. It is void of high impact emotions.  It does not exhaust your hope or expectation tank and keeps you from plummeting into the depths of despair when you lose a sale.  You understand using this system that both wining sales and losing sales is part of the process and cycle and both are headed your way.  I have had people ask me when I have closed a twenty-five thousand dollar deal, “Aren’t you excited”. I say, excited about what?
  3. Presume Each Proposal Is A No:   This is complete opposition of what 97 percent of sales people practice and sales trainers teach.  However, using this method allows you to keep actively working in the field until the final answer is determined.  If the proposal or sales turns out to be a no, you won’t fall into despair and lose your momentum.  If the sale is a yes, it makes it just that much better.  Most professionals practice the opposite, expecting every proposal and sale to be a yes, and when the no’s come everyone is bummed out. 

sunset and happy manTime is to short, selling is hard work, lots of people to serve and too much money to be earned to waste your time, energy, resources and talents just to find out that you are dancing for the wrong partner.  Find out fast and up front if they are the right ones.  You will work less, earn more and retain your sanity!

Just Give It A Try…

As a child (and somewhat as an adult) to say I was (am) a picky eater would be a massive understatement. No matter how hard my mom would try, or how fierce her warnings were, she had one heck of a time trying to get me to eat anything new.  Her famous words were “Just Give It A Try”.  My famous reply was “I don’t like it”.  “How do you know you don’t like it?” she would ask me, in which I would say, “It looks funny and smells bad”.

Every time she came after me with a new dish I would take off running like a rabbit that just got shot in the ass with a pellet! 

The entire goal of all marketing is just to get your target market to “Taste” your product or service.  As human beings in the 21st Century our internal anti-purchasing systems are so well honed due to the over extensive offers and selling propositions that flood us everyday.  Without thinking, whenever we are exposed to a product or service everything in our brain begins to fire off signals to reject, refuse, ignore, stay away from and run that it automatically overrides our conscience decision and power of choice.

Most do not realize this process is happening to them, but as it happens it blinds us many times to the very thing we need and even desperately desire.  This is the reason many salespeople, professionals and business owners are failing to make more sales and acquire more customers.

Fathers Day Tribute…

Me and my Dad at the Age of 14

First and foremost a hearty salutation to all fathers, grandfathers and great grandfathers for all the care and investment you made into your children’s lives.  I look back on the role my father played in my life and I could never express the gratitude I feel for him (he has since passed away) nor say Thank You enough for being the great dad he was to me.  The best way I know how to thank him and make the most of the investment he made in my life is to become the best human being I possibly can and succeed to the heights that he desired for me.

The great thing about Fathers Day is to remember that our Creator has provided many benefits as well.  In fact, we are Rich because our Heavenly Father is Rich.  He owns cattle on a thousand hills and all the Gold of the Earth and He has given set laws to get that wealth to us.  Did you notice I said set laws?

Many people have an internal view and belief of God bringing them prosperity by means of faith and giving a whole lot of money to some Ministries.  The metaphysical group believes they are going to “Think and Grow Rich” using positive affirmations, visualizations and accurate thinking.

Although both these schools of thought have some truth in them and both carry a certain amount of importance, the true way God brings wealth and prosperity is through laws that are governable, traceable and predictable. Here are a few of those set laws.

1. The Law of Hard Work   Whenever you set out on a task be it growing your business and income or finding new customers, the key ingredient is hard work.  When you work hard at something you will be able to see the MastermindGroupresults of your labor.  It also gives you the feeling and knowing that you are doing something, that you are a part of the success you desire.

2. The Law of Exposure   If you are selling something, anything, the rate in which you do that is based upon exposure.  The more people who know what you are selling the higher percentage of a chance you have of selling that item.  You could have the greatest product in the world but if no one knows about it what good does it do.  On the other hand, the moment you understand and make a commitment to the law of exposure you begin to tap into that unlimited wealth that God has provided for you.

3. The Law of Activity   This is one of my favorite of all success laws because we alone control this factor.  When we are out selling we cannot control who will say yes and who will say no to our offer but what we can control is the activity of how many people we present to. And because artofbusinessipodselling is a numbers game, we can control our business growth, income and sales through the law of activity.  There are very few money problems that cannot be solved with the law of activity.  The great fallacy of sales is to believe that after we get a yes, we get so excited we emotionally feel that we will never get another no or rejection.  On the flip side of that, after we encounter a no, we emotionally feel that everyone we talk to from then on is going to be no.  Of course both situations are incorrect.  Once we understand the law of activity we will no longer wonder what our income is going to be at the end of the month, or where our next sale is going to come from.  Our income, growth and sales will become predictable and measurable before we step in front of one prospect.  When you master these 3 laws of Success you never have to worry about money again, because the flow of money into your life will be completely in your control and not in any other factor in life.

Knowing how God really gets success and money to you will save you from a lot of disillusionment, confusion, disappointment and bitter despair.  You cannot really “Think and Grow Rich” but you can work your ass off and get rich.  I would write a book with that title but too many people would get mad at me for it!

So in closing today make this week and day of massive exposure, hard work and activity and you will be surprised how many miracles will come forth.

The Monkey And The Nut That Killed Him…

Every business has 3 cycles; a time to get in, a time to stay in and a time to get out!  For many professionals and business owners not understanding these business concepts gets them into big financial trouble and has bankrupt many.  The timing of these cycles is extremely precise and offer little room for error.  It’s kind of like those big revolving glass doors, if you jump on it to fast your face is going to slam into a plate of glass and you will pick yourself up with fewer teeth than you started with in the morning.  If you exit too late, you are going to catch a foot or a hand in the door jam and you will yell like Hell!

It takes just the right timing to enter and exit on those revolving doors.  I do not know who the genius that invented them was but they should require a fearmedial doctor installed at each door.  Far too many people go into business thinking it is a lifetime ordeal.  The business may have a long life span but it is rare that it stays with one owner or one family.  On the other hand, many people have got into the right business at the wrong time and lost everything they had including their mind.

The other culprit is getting out too soon.  People jump ship because of rough waters, challenging times and slow growth periods.  Most everyone is familiar with the true story of 3 Feet from Gold recorded in the famous success book “Think and Grow Rich” written by Napoleon Hill.  It is the story of a man who was digging for oil and after much time, money and work was invested with no results, he decided to quite and sold all his oil drilling equipment to the junk yard.  An engineer started studying his map and realized that the oil seeker was just three feet from black gold!  The engineer purchased the oil equipment for a few dollars, moved it three feet over from where the last man left off and became a wealthy oil tycoon.

BusinessQuitting and getting out of a business too soon is most likely the number one mistake made by both armature and professional entrepreneurs.  The reason being, business is no place for the faint in heart, the weak, the complainer, the excuse maker, the bull shit expert, or the fearful.  If you cannot make a decision or make up your mind, don’t go into business or it will drive you out of your mind.  For these reasons, many people get into business only to get out way to soon. If you are going to succeed in business you have to be as tough as King Kong and at times it will not hurt to look like him too.

But out of all the three cycles of business, the most deadly culprit and death trap of all is staying in a business too long.  Thus my headline, “The Monkey and the Nut that Killed Him”.  They tell me one of the main ways that monkey hunters in the Amazon Jungle hunt moneys is by taking a coconut that has been hollowed out and drilling a small hole at both ends and slipping in a small nut.  Then they take that coconut and tie it to a tree.  Before long, a monkey comes by and sticks his hand inside the coconut to grab the nut.  When he does the hunters come walking up comely and easily captures him because when the monkey grabs the nut and makes a fist he cannot remove his hand.

Now the money knows what is coming, he is yelling and jumping up and down and trying to yank his hand loose (with the nut) but finds it impossible to do.  All that monkey has to do is let go of the nut and he could easily slip his hand out of the coconut and go free, escaping capture.  But for whatever reason, that monkey will not let go of that nut and thus gets captured.

That is a perfect illustration of entrepreneurs staying in a business too long even though they can see the end coming.  They refuse to let go and get out.  Many times they do not know how to get out, sometimes the emotional bond is too strong, for some they have been beaten down so bad they do not have the strength to let go.  But for too many, they are like that money and choose sheer stupidity and refuse to let go of the nut that is about to kill them.

The three cycles apply not only to business ownership but also to working careers.  Your income, lifestyle, health and peace of mind are determined by your ability to maneuver your way successfully through these three business and career cycles.  One of the most important things you can do before you enter any business venture is have a plan of action for all three cycles.  Know when to get in, know how long to stay in, and most important know when its time to save your ass and get out!

Take a look at where you are right now and ask yourself what cycle are you in? Because the understanding and timing of business cycles are so important, it is critical that you find an experienced Mentor to help you with this process.  You cannot put a price tag on Mentorship, it is priceless and the value is beyond measure.  Cycles are inevitable finding a Mentor to help you is optional (on your part).
